Langmeier Backup FAQ

Create backup in the folder of the current weekday

Backup folders can be created dynamically in Langmeier Backup. This can be used to always back up data to the folder of the current day of the week. At the end of the working week you will have five backup folders, each with a copy of your data.

Proceed as follows

Click on a backup element in the main window of Langmeier Backup and enter the following in the "Destination" field (assume E: is your backup drive)

E:\Backup from [dddd]

In Langmeier Backup lassen sich die Sicherungsordner dynamisch erstellen. Dies lässt sich nutzen, um die Daten immer in den Ordner des gerade aktuellen Wochentags zu sichern. Hier ein Tutorial.

After 5 days your backup folder will look like this:

As you can see, the folders in File Explorer are now displayed unsorted. File Explorer can only sort by numbers or letters in alphabetical order. Therefore, we also use the variable [w] to prefix the complete backup folder with the number of the day of the week (1 - 7). Enter the following in the "Destination" (E: must be replaced with your correct backup drive):

E:\[w] Backup from [dddd]

If you now start a daily backup, your backup drive will look like this after a working week:

To synchronize the backup folder, switch on the option "Also remove deleted files on backup medium" in the settings of the data backup task:

Leave all other options at the preset default.

At the end, you will have a copy of the previous data for each day of the week. Now change the backup medium every week. If you use four different backup media, i.e. use the first medium again in the fifth week, you can easily restore your data to the status of up to four weeks ago. If a file is accidentally deleted, it can be restored up to four weeks back.

Free up storage space automatically when it runs out: The FreeUp option

With the FreeUp option, the program can automatically delete older data backup folders if there is not enough storage space. If there is no longer enough space on the drive for the backup, the oldest backup folders are deleted until there is enough space on the backup. The FreeUp option can be specified together with any variable.
