Langmeier Backup enables you to back up and restore both folder and file permissions in Windows environments. While the software offers comprehensive support for permissions management, there are a few technical limitations you should be aware of.

Please consider the following important points:

• Folder permissions can be backed up starting from Langmeier Backup version 8.0.0.355. Earlier versions support the backup of file permissions only, not folder permissions.
• To back up Windows permissions, your backup medium must be NTFS-formatted or a magnetic tape drive. Other file systems are not supported for this feature.
• Backups created as ZIP archives or those stored on online servers do not support Windows permissions. As a result, these backups will not retain any Windows-specific permissions.
• If you modify the security information of individual files, it is recommended to perform a new full backup. Changes to file security information are not detected as file changes during incremental or differential backups. However, any changes to folder permissions are always included in the backup process.
• Inherited permissions are also backed up via the root folder that provides the inheritance. During restoration, inherited permissions are applied to the root folder of the restored directory, unless the original root folders are also restored. If you wish to alter this behavior, you should copy the Windows permissions directly to the underlying files before performing the backup.
