Langmeier Backup FAQ

Find out now: Why is a file not backed up?

Are you noticing that certain files are missing from your backup? If some files are being omitted and you are wondering why one or more files are being ignored by your backup solution, please consider the following possible reasons:

  • The file is included in the global exclusion list.
You can find the global exclusion list in the global settings, which you can access via the Options button. There, select Excluded files and types… to review or modify the list.
  • The file is excluded in the settings for the current backup job.
Each backup job can have its own exclusion list. To check this, click the lower part of the Options button in the menu bar and select Settings for this job. Then, open Excluded files and types… to see if the file is listed there.
  • The file has been excluded from the backup path.
You can exclude specific files or folders from the backup path by double-clicking the path and navigating to the Include / Exclude tab.
  • The file is located in a folder that has already been backed up.
  • The file has already been backed up to another destination.
If you back up a file to multiple backup media or folders, ensure that the option Check archive bit only for the selection of files to be backed up is disabled. This is the only way Langmeier Backup can recognize that the file still needs to be backed up to the other destination.
  • The file is marked as ‘not to be backed up’ in the Windows registry.
The relevant registry key can be found at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

If you have checked all these points and your files are still not being backed up, please consult the documentation of your backup software or contact technical support for further assistance.
