Langmeier Backup FAQ

Is that possible? Image backup from the old computer to the new one

Question from Lars S.: “I have bought a new computer. Can I import my image backup onto the new computer to get an exact copy of my old computer?”

Answer: Unfortunately, this is not possible. You need to install the operating system on your new computer using the original installation media. There are several reasons for this. First, the boot sector of your old and new computers is likely incompatible, which can prevent the system from starting. Second, each PC has unique hardware components and therefore requires specific drivers. Attempting to run your new computer with drivers from your old system will almost certainly lead to errors and instability. Even backup software from other providers cannot reliably overcome these hardware differences, despite what their marketing may suggest.

Our tip: Take the time to set up your new computer properly to avoid issues down the line. Transfer your existing file backups to the new device so that you have all your important data at hand. This approach allows you to easily access archived photos, emails, and other files from your old computer that you have previously backed up with Langmeier Backup.
