How scheduled backups are always executed

This is what you can do if Langmeier Backup does not perform the scheduled data backup automatically. Tips and tricks to help.

If all Langmeier Backup windows are closed, the process "lmbackup.exe" must still be active in the Task Manager under the "Processes" tab in order to execute scheduled backups. If the software is operated as a Windows service, the "lmbackupsvc.exe" process must also be active.

If this is not the case, saving any scheduled task again will help. To do this, click on "Schedule" and then on "Edit". Click on "Save" to save the planning task again. Saving the task activates the background process and ensures that it is called up again when Windows is restarted.

Now check the following:

• Under Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, if the software is not run as a Windows service, there is a shortcut in the Autostart folder. Check whether the shortcut exists. If not, save the planning job again as described above.
• For all other operating systems, there is a scheduled task with the name "Langmeier Backup" in the Windows task scheduler. Check whether the scheduled task "Langmeier Backup" exists and whether the task is deactivated. If it is deactivated, activate it with the right mouse button and then "Activate".

Good to know:

• In the normal operating mode of Langmeier Backup, automatic backups are only executed if the user is logged on to the computer. If you want to run Langmeier Backup backups even when nobody is logged on to the computer, you must run Langmeier Backup as a Windows service. This is almost always necessary for Windows servers.
  
  To do this, click on "Options" (global settings) and click on "Program behavior...". Now activate the "Run as Windows service" checkbox.
  
  
• When running as a Windows service, the scheduling options "Immediately after logon", "Before logoff" and "While idle from" may not be executed, as these scheduling options relate to the currently active user. Use a different scheduling option, such as backing up at a specific time of day.
• When running as a Windows service, the user will not receive any on-screen messages about backups being performed. After completing the backup, check the "Log" tab on the right to see whether the backup is noted there. Alternatively, you can have the backup log sent to you by email after the backup has been completed.
