Langmeier Backup FAQ

Langmeier Backup runs faster with these professional tips!

If you are wondering whether Langmeier Backup can perform backups faster, there are solutions. Often the backup can be made a little or a lot faster with the right program settings.

Make the following settings in the program to speed up the backup:

  • Create a hard disk image instead of a file backup, especially for the operating system partition. A hard disk image backup technically takes place in a single step, whereas a file backup has to open and process each individual file. You can find instructions on how to create a hard disk image here.
  • A hard disk image backup is even faster if you select around 700 MB for the division.
  • In the third step of the "Setup" wizard, uncheck "Remove automatic generation backup"
  • In the main window, check the "Only back up changed files" box.
  • In the options under the "Expert settings" tab, set the option "Check archive bit for the selection of files to be backed up".
  • Remove the checkmark next to "Also back up open files".
  • In the "Settings for this task", remove the option "Check data backup".
  • In the "Set up" wizard, remove the tick next to "Encryption".
  • In the "Set up" wizard, remove the tick next to "Zip compression".
  • Double-click on a path to be backed up in the main window and exclude unimportant files (e.g. temporary folders) under the "Include/Exclude" tab.

If you operate the PC while Langmeier Backup is backing up, the backup speed of Langmeier Backup is deliberately reduced slightly so that you can continue working with the PC more smoothly. However, this mainly plays a role with weaker computers and is practically irrelevant with powerful computers.

To run the backup at full load anyway, schedule the backup with a planning job during work breaks. Set the following under "Schedule", for example: "Start backup: when idle for 15 minutes". In this way, the backup is started during work breaks and is executed at full speed with certainty.
