Langmeier Backup FAQ

Where does Langmeier Backup store its data?

Have you ever wondered where Langmeier Backup actually stores its data, such as settings and backup jobs? In this article, you will find all the relevant information you need. Please note that these folders are typically hidden by default. To access them, you must first make hidden folders visible in Windows Explorer, or you can enter the correct folder path directly into the address bar to display the contents immediately.

Default Storage Locations

By default, backup tasks are stored in the following directory:

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Langmeier Software\Backup

Scheduling tasks are saved in this file:

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Langmeier Software\atb3.dta

Certain settings are stored in the Windows registry under the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Langmeier Software\Langmeier Backup

Note: If you plan to uninstall and then reinstall Langmeier Backup, you should export your settings from the registry and import them again after reinstallation. To do this, use the registry editor (regedit.exe). Simply click on Start and enter regedit. Please be aware that your backup jobs—which include information about what is backed up and where—will remain saved even after uninstallation.

When Running as a Windows Service

If you operate Langmeier Backup as a Windows service, all data is stored in different locations. In this mode, settings apply globally to all Windows users, not just a single user.

Backup tasks are then located here:

C:\ProgramData\Langmeier Software\Backup

Scheduling tasks are stored in:

C:\ProgramData\Langmeier Software\atb3.dta

Registry data for the service mode is found under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Langmeier Software\Langmeier Backup

On 64-bit Windows systems, the registry path is slightly different:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Langmeier Software\Langmeier Backup

Notice: To access this registry path, you may need elevated Windows permissions (administrator rights).

Custom Scripts

Any VB scripts you have created for Langmeier Backup are always stored in:

C:\ProgramData\Langmeier Software\Scripts
