Langmeier Backup for aBusiness Suite under Windows 7
Windows 7 support has already been expired by Microsoft. If someone should still use Langmeier Backup under Windows 7, and want to use it to back up data to the aBusiness Suite Cloud, then the following error may occur under Windows 7:
"Access to online storage failed"
and further:
"An error occurred in the support of the secure channel"
This error appears because Windows 7 usually does not have the TLS 1.2 protocol enabled, but this is required by aBusiness Suite.
To enable the TLS 1.2 protocol, do the following:
(a) Enable protocol in Internet Properties:
- Go to the Control Panel
- Click on Network and Internet
- Click on Network and Sharing Center
- At the bottom left click on Internet Options
- The Internet Properties dialog appears, click on the Advanced tab
- Scroll to the bottom and check "Use TLS1.2"
b) The second step is to install the necessary Windows Update for TLS 1.2. This is the link to download and install the correct update for your operating system:
Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 must be installed to apply this update.
c) The previous steps might have already been done by Windows Update. However, what Windows Update does not do is add the TLS 1.2 protocol to the standard of supported protocols. Therefore, this third final step is mandatory:
- Open the Windows Registry Editor
- The DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry must be added as a DWORD value under the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\WinHttp
On x64-based computers, DefaultSecureProtocols must also be added to the Wow6432Node path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\WinHttp
- For TLS 1.2 support, this value must be set to hexadecimal 800 in each case.
d) At the end of these measures a restart of the computer is mandatory.
As soon as you have completed these measures, you can also back up your data to the aBusiness Suite Cloud with Langmeier Backup 12 under Windows 7 as well as under Windows Server 2008 R2. Please note that at least Langmeier Backup 12 is required for this.
