Langmeier Backup FAQ

How scheduled backups are always executed

What to do if Langmeier Backup does not automatically perform scheduled backups – Expert tips and solutions

If Langmeier Backup is not executing your scheduled backups as expected, there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue. The following guide will help you systematically identify and address common causes.

1. Check Background Processes

Even when all Langmeier Backup windows are closed, the process lmbackup.exe must remain active in the Task Manager under the Processes tab to ensure scheduled backups are executed. If you are running the software as a Windows service, the process lmbackupsvc.exe should also be active.

If neither process is running, try saving any scheduled task again. To do this, click on Schedule, then Edit, and finally Save. This action reactivates the background process and ensures it will be launched again after a Windows restart.

2. Verify Task Scheduling

  • For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003: If Langmeier Backup is not running as a Windows service, there should be a shortcut in the Autostart folder. Please check whether this shortcut exists. If it is missing, save the scheduled task again as described above.
  • For all other operating systems: There should be a scheduled task named Langmeier Backup in the Windows Task Scheduler. Verify that this task exists and is not deactivated. If it is deactivated, right-click on the task and select Enable.

Good to know:

  • In the standard operating mode, Langmeier Backup will only perform automatic backups if a user is logged on to the computer. If you wish to run backups even when no user is logged in, you must configure Langmeier Backup to run as a Windows service. This is especially important for Windows servers.

To enable this, go to Options (global settings), select Program behavior..., and activate the Run as Windows service checkbox.

How to proceed if Langmeier Backup does not automatically perform the scheduled backup. Tips and tricks to help.
  • When running as a Windows service, scheduling options such as Immediately after logon, Before logoff, and While idle from may not be executed, as these options are tied to the currently active user. Instead, use a fixed time schedule, such as backing up at a specific time of day.
  • Please note that when Langmeier Backup is running as a Windows service, you will not receive on-screen notifications about backup operations. After a backup is completed, check the Log tab on the right to confirm that the backup was performed. Alternatively, you can configure the software to send the backup log to you via email after each backup.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your scheduled backups with Langmeier Backup run reliably and without interruption. If you continue to experience issues, consider reaching out to Langmeier Software support for further assistance.
