Shortcut no longer starts the backup job: Create a new shortcut in Langmeier Backup

A desktop shortcut is supposed to launch a backup job directly, but only the program window opens. Langmeier Backup recreates the shortcut with a single click—after that, the job starts again.

Why does my shortcut start the program but not the job?

Recreate the shortcut in Langmeier Backup: select the backup job and choose “Create shortcut on desktop” — the program creates the call correctly. A shortcut points firmly to the job file. If the job was renamed or moved, the old shortcut points nowhere: The program window opens, but the job doesn't start.

The steps

  1. Delete the old shortcut from the desktop.
  2. Select the backup job in Langmeier Backup.
  3. Choose “Create shortcut on desktop”.
  4. Double-click the new shortcut and check the log to see whether the job runs through.

This applies after every rename or move of a job: just recreate the shortcut once, and you're done.

For pros: custom-built calls

If you start the job from a batch file, a script, or Windows Task Scheduler, you write the call by hand:

lmbackup.exe /start "C:\Backup Aufträge\Wochensicherung.lmb"

Put every path containing spaces in straight double quotation marks, otherwise the command line splits the path into two parts. This rule applies to every program under Windows.

Langmeier Backup creates shortcuts itself — after renaming a job, simply recreate it.
