Backing up your data
Which type of backup is the best choice for my data? The variety of backup methods: from full and incremental to differential and mirrored backup. There are different types of backup, such as full backup, incremental backup, differential backup and mirror backup. The different backup types are described below. 1. full backupA full backup (also known as a complete backup) is a backup copy of all the data on a system. All data is backed up in a single backup process, regardless of whether it has been changed since the last backup or not. Full backups are very time-consuming and require a lot of disk space, but they are the easiest type of backup to restore data from. 2. incremental backupWith an incremental backup, only the data that has been changed or added since the last backup is backed up. This means that only the changes that have been made since the last backup are backed up. Incremental backups are faster and require less storage space than full backups, as only changed or new data is backed up. However, to restore an incremental backup, you need the full backup and all incremental backups that have been created since then. 3. differential backupIn a differential backup, all data that has been changed or added since the last full backup is backed up. In contrast to incremental backups, however, not only the last incremental backup is backed up here, but all changes since the last full backup. Differential backups are faster than full backups and require less storage space than incremental backups. To restore a differential backup, however, you need the full backup and the last differential backup. 4. mirror backupA mirror backup (also known as an image backup or system image) is a complete copy of the entire system, including the operating system, applications and all data. The mirror backup is an exact copy of the original system and enables the entire system to be restored quickly and completely in the event of a system error or failure. However, the mirror backup requires a lot of storage space and is time-consuming to create. Langmeier Software offers solutions not only for companies, but also for private individuals who want to keep their files safe.
