Langmeier Backup FAQ
V-Flex Licensing: One license per server; all VMs includedA server runs multiple virtual machines, and all of them need to be backed up—is one license enough? Yes: V-Flex is licensed per server and covers all VMs on that host. Why the server is the unit of measurement and which two keys are included with the license. Is one license enough for all virtual machines on a server?Yes. A V-Flex license covers one server with all the virtual machines on it. Example: You run two servers. One has 3 virtual machines running on it, the other has 15. You need 2 licenses. If you add a third server, you need a third license. You buy as many licenses as you have servers. You never count the virtual machines. Whether you move, copy, or delete virtual machines, the number of licenses stays the same. Two keys for two backup methodsEvery V-Flex license includes two keys:
Both methods are equivalent, and you can combine them. Inside the virtual machine, you can also back up individual folders and files. That's worth doing when individual folders come up more often than the whole server. Which platforms does V-Flex run on?V-Flex runs on Hyper-V, Xen, VMware, KVM, and VirtualBox. Even in mixed environments, the rule is: one license per server. Look it up further:
